New Search Engine thinks Google Un"Cuil"

"Cuil" is pronounced "cool," and is old Irish for knowledge.

It is also the latest search engine that challenges industry leader Google. (after similarly cool-sounding search engine names like Teoman, Vivisimo, Mahalo, Inktomi, Chacha, and others.)

The punchline: Cuil.com was developed by former Google employees, led by Anna Patterson.

Read all about it here. Or, try out a search on Cuil.com and see if you like the results. The results listing is unlike any other search engine--quite refreshing, actually. Though functionality and relevance remain to be seen.

Methinks I'll be giving Cuil a dry run. Why not "cuil it?"

Tried it the day it was introduced. Not that impressive. Pero the black and blue color is an eye candy. :)

How To Pace Comics

We took a peek at compression and decompression in comics in the previous blog post . Now, let's look at pacing, or how to pace comics. Pacing is simply how fast a reader reads your comics. Much like compression and decompression, pacing allows you to highlight pivotal events in your story. And this is primarily done by influencing how long your reader stays on a panel. The longer the reader stays on the panel, the reading place slows down. The faster the reader stays on a panel, the reading pace speeds up. 1. By default, the amount of text you place on a panel dictates pacing. The more text, the slower the pace. Chris Claremont is known for having verbose panels during his acclaimed run on Uncanny X-Men . 2. When the size of the panel is small, the pacing quickens. Conversely, large panels slow down the pacing. 3. Then the amount of visual information (details) you have inside a panel dictates pacing. As if 26 shows weren't enough, Zsazsa Zaturnnah: Ze Muzikal leaps back to its homebase--CCP's Tanghalang Huseng Batute--for five more shows this June 16 to 18, as part of the International Theater Festival to be hosted this year by the Philippines. The festival will stage productions from the Asia-Pacific and ASEAN regions. Then there's rumors a-buzzing that the musical will make overseas curtain calls in Japan and the US. Again, these are still rumors. For the past how many weeks, I've been getting texts asking me to confirm a few rumors to which I'm near-oblivious to, but I guess that's all part of the deal. One of those rumors involves Jennylyn Mercado playing Zaturnnah in the film adaptation. However, the most recent development has Rufa Mae Quinto and Ogie Alcasid as all-systems-go to play Zaturnnah and Ada, respectively.
