Graphic Classics: Udolpho

Above are sample pages from my latest project, Anne Radcliffe's "The Mysteries of Udolpho," which is the featured story for the upcoming Graphic Classics anthology "Gothic Classics." "Udolpho" is adapted by Antonella Caputo--who succeeded in packing the original 500-page novel into 46 comics pages-- with art by me.

This is the most challenging comics project I've tackled because of the story's epic scale. We're talking about 16th-century France and Italy, complete with costumes, numerous sets, and a host of characters. Then there's the dark atmosphere, a stretch for my default art style.

In one comics seminar, I told the participants that it's possible to tweak one's art style to fit a particular genre. In the case of Udolpho, I used loads of cross-hatching and shadows, and tried to make the sets as large and foreboding as the page space allowed. Overall, Udolpho was a wonderful comics illustration experience--it pushed me to do things I never thought I could.

Time to take a break, then on to the next project.

Woah!

Kaya ayun.

Tulad ng karaminhan, pencils and inks ako. :-)

@carver

Ano naman pong mgra brand and gamit nyo? (with inks specially)

Pasensya na kung medyo matanong hehe.

mopz... oks lang 'yan. :-)

Forever akong gumagamit ng UNI Pin na sign pen from 01 to 08 na thickness, though mas madalas kong gamitin ang 03. Tapos, nariyan ang Sharpie na marker. :-)

Kaya kapag binura, hayun nag fe fade yung ink.

Can you share tips regarding that? hehehe +_+

EH!? Oo nga no!?
