Short Time

Part of my rehabilitation involves getting back to that old habit of mine--downloading short stories from the Web, printing them out and reading them at my own leisure, which is usually during breaks from work. I've been going through the stories pretty slowly as I'm having a harder time digesting them compared to way back when. There's Maggot and Misogyny by Iain Grant, American Sister by Sung J. Woo, They're Made out of Meat by Terry Bisson and A Clean Well-Lighted Place by Ernest Hemingway, just to name a few. I've also gone through (and really loved) the first story of a science fiction anthology given to me by Vin. It was the lengthy and verbally-complex (at least to my standards) A New Light on The Drake Equation by Ian McLeod.

If any of you would like to get into this story download thing, go to the site I frequent: Short Stories at East of the Web, or Google "short stories" to find other similar sites. Take the printed pages with you and enjoy them when you're stuck in some café with nothing better to do.

But maybe you're the paying kind, which makes Amazon Shorts your best bet, especially that they feature unpublished works by known authors. That's US$0.49, or less than Php30, per story. If I had a credit card, I'd try it out. But I still have to settle a debt with the government.

Hi Carl! Nice to know that you're reading again! Hemingway's A Clean Well-Lighted Place is one of my favorite short stories. I admire his clear and precise use of words.
I'm glad you enjoyed the book I got you. Visit soon. :)

Vin. Heeyyyyyyy. :) I loved the Hemingway story. And the one by McLeod surprisingly made me feel, well, melancholic, though it had the Hollywood-y climax. I tried to start the second story, but it became a struggle. I wanna finish the whole book, darn it! Miss you!

Erica. Har har. What sort of bedtime stories? Feeling nostalgic once again. Oh, and I can so relate to the suicidal tendencies. Yes, for us, it's one of those things. Heheh. See you soon!
